Melt

Melt by Heidi Wicks is a wonderfully crafted window into the lives of two friends as they grow, stumble, change, fail, succeed, and do their best to navigate just how messy life is. Both Jess and Cait are great characters that are so lifelike that I often forgot they were fictional as I was reading.

The way the novel captures the experience of living in Newfoundland, St. John's especially, also contributed to that. It was such a well-rounded look at the good, the bad, the embarrassing, and the joys of living here, and a lot of that nuance reflected or even challenged my own feelings about living in this province. It went beyond simply recognizing landmarks and intertwined with Jess and Cait's lives so well, bringing a life of its own to the page.

This was a fantastic read and I'm so glad I got to experience it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5 stars)

I recommend this book.
