A Digitally Lit Supported Program
The Immigrant Literacy for Youth (ILY) Initiative is a community-driven program dedicated to supporting immigrant and newcomer youth through accessible, inclusive, and culturally responsive literacy resources.
Supported by Digitally Lit, the ILY Initiative focuses on helping young people build confidence in English and French language learning while fostering a sense of belonging, empowerment, and connection. The program recognizes that literacy is more than reading and writing - it is a critical tool for self-expression, participation, and long-term success.

Why the ILY Initiative Matters
Newcomer and immigrant youth often face barriers to language learning that extend beyond the classroom, including limited access to resources, social isolation, and systems not designed with their lived experiences in mind.

The ILY Initiative exists to help bridge these gaps by providing:
-
Accessible language-learning tools
-
Youth-friendly and welcoming learning spaces
-
Community-based support beyond formal instruction

By centring youth voices and lived experience, the initiative supports literacy development in ways that are flexible, affirming, and grounded in real needs.
The Immigrant Literacy for Youth (ILY) Initiative is proud to be supported by Digitally Lit, working together to expand access to literacy, learning, and opportunity for young people across communities.
