Catch My Drift

Catch My Drift

Lorna always wanted to stand out, but her career as a competitive swimmer was cut short by a knee injury. Cara, her daughter, tries hard to blend in, but when she has to fill in for her brother at a school pageant, she is overwhelmed by terror. Lorna is vain about her ability to shut out distractions. Cara can't control her scary thoughts. And while Lorna tries her best to move past life's early disappointments, Cara picks at the cracks in her family's story. Spanning two decades, Catch My Drift follows mother and daughter through life changes big and small, and reveals that despite our shared experiences, we each live a private story.

Catch My Drift

I really enjoyed this book as it alternates perspectives between the mother and the daughter. I liked how Lorna’s story was told in the third person and Cara’s was in first person. Genevieve Scott really captured the essence of a great mother daughter relationship.

This book covers the stages of life stages through the eyes of a promising athlete struggling with the changes between teen life and adulthood. For example having to raise her children as a single mom when her boyfriend left. This story demonstrates a lot of realism on what the world is really like.

Ms. Scott knows how to bring her characters to life; they felt extremely real. I was really feeling for all the characters as their struggles seemed so real.

I found the novel a little lagging in the middle but other than that this was such a beautiful book! It was very thoughtfully written and I really got the chance to connect with these characters.

I recommend this book.
