Fred has been having a rough summer. His mom has gotten very sick and his dad’s diving business has closed down leaving Fred really concerned about his family. Soon Fred learns about a secret family treasure. Claude Gagnon an ancestor from long ago was the only survivor of the treasure ship, Le Chameau. Hoping it can help his family out he asked his friends Grace and Mai to help him look for the treasure, but he did not tell them exactly what they are looking for. Fred thought that they would just trust him but when they start asking questions Fred starts having a hard time lying. He wants to tell them the truth but also doesn’t want his friends to know about his family problems. Worse of all he also wants to keep this a secret from his dad because he is worried that he may use the treasure for the wrong reasons. Fred, Grace and Mai find the box containing the treasure but they cannot open the box. The key hole to the box is jammed with metal and rocks. They try many times to open the box while keeping it hidden from his father and re-enactors at Fortress Louisburg before the box goes missing!
Does Fred and the gang ever find who stole the treasure box? Is there really treasure in the box from the Le Chameau? Do the friends find out about Fred’s family problems?
I enjoyed the mystery part of the book. I had a hard time figuring out who the villain was and who really took Fred’s box. In my opinion I found that this book was all over the place and I had a hard time keeping up. I rate this book a 3/5.

I recommend this book.
