Wereduck

Kate’s family has told her that on her thirteenth birthday she’ll hear the “Whooooo” call of the moon, and howl back, and become a werewolf just like them. But she doesn’t want to be a werewolf. She’s always felt more like a duck. On the night of her thirteenth birthday, Kate stands near her family’s cabin in the backwoods of New Brunswick and hears the moon calling—but it sounds like more of a “Whooooo?” as in “Who are you?” and Kate does what she’s always wanted to do—she quacks. Quack, quack, quacks.

Her family tries to understand Kate’s new full-moon form, but they are busy integrating themselves with some new, edgy werewolves in town.

Engaging, hilarious, and utterly believable, Wereduck is a thrilling addition to the were-canon.

When the main character “Kate” is supposed to turn 13, the exact night of her birthday, she is supposed to become a werewolf. But when she hears the call of the moon it’s not how she expected and what she hears is, “Whooo?” Like “Who are you?” So instead of howling she does something even better. Something even more legendary and cooler!! She quacks. Yep! She quacks just like she wanted to. Kate’s family is confused, (As one should be) they try to understand her new full moon form while making room at their home for some new mysterious werewolves. And to make matters more of a quack, a reporter by the name of Dirk, is lurking around who thinks he heard a couple howls. (Dirk likes to lurk.)

I thought this book was hilarious and “suspenseful” in a cute and funny way. Although I did enjoy this book so much it didn’t keep me engaged all the way through. I really liked the book because it was cute and funny and because it was such a quirky idea. It was written beautifully and honestly at the beginning of it, when she comes home and sees her little brother "motionless" on the floor with her grandmother standing above him in her wolf form, and Kate saying, “I thought I told you to save room for me.” Took me a little off guard and I quickly rethought if this was gonna be a sweet and cute story but I was just tricked and taken off guard by the author. Well done. I give this book 4/5 🌕🌕🌕🌕 moons for it's creativity. I would recommend this if you want a cute and funny read.

I recommend this book.
