We Will All Be Received

In 1977, a young woman steals a duffel bag full of drug money and flees her bad-news boyfriend, hitching a ride with a long-haul trucker to the world's edge. She intends to disappear forever, to redefine herself on her own terms as Dawn Taylor. But eventually, stars and satellites align. In a remote roadside motel, Dawn's past catches up with her. As a ferocious storm blows in, Vryenhoek vividly captures the desires of a host of characters whose paths have converged in this strange place. Ethan struggles to escape a tired narrative of childhood trauma. Cheryl is desperate to resuscitate a reputation blown apart on social media. And Spencer, an ex-con seeking to overcome his criminal past, chases a faint hope he's glimpsed on a website built half a continent away. When the highway closes and the power fails, there's nothing to keep them from disclosing who they really are.

We Will All Be Recieved

Those one who know the truth continue to follow Dawn Taylor like her shadow. After 30 years of hide-out, her past has start to catch up to her. However, the question remains: which part of her life is really the truth? This story will keep you interested right up to the remarkable ending. Vryenhoek has made us to think about the reality of perceptions in our own lives and how often we are received differently intended. This is an excellent read that will keep you thinking even after you turn the final page.

One of the most convoluted relationship we will ever have is with ourselves. This elegantly written novel has a collection of layered characters whose relationships and life stories are intriguing and dynamic. As all good character building should, they are landed in that grey area where they are neither good or evil, which naturally make them relatable and interesting. I believe we all have this kind of feeling after finishing a good book: wanting more not because the story was not complete but because the characters are such realistic and fascinating people that you believe their life will still go on after the story ends.

Majority of this book is set in Western Newfoundland. I have never been there but Vryenhoek’s beautiful and detailed language of the land and the people who lived there, traveled me through the 1000 kilometers to Newfoundland without the hazard of COVID. However, it would be extradentary interesting if there were more description of the local accent to build the true sense of immersion.

I recommend this book.

We Will All Be Recieved

We Will All Be Received, by Leslie Vryenhoek is a brilliantly crafted novel set majorly in Newfoundland.
In 1977, a young woman, equipped with a bag stolen of drug money, flees to find a new beginning, hitching a ride with a long haul trucker who brings her to Newfoundland. There, she takes up the new identity of Dawn Taylor. Some thirty years later, she owns a roadside motel, and finds herself hosting an unlikely group of individuals. A man seeking escape from childhood trauma, a woman whose career is being dismantled, and an ex-con, whose criminal past is at all to easy access.
We Will All Be Received is a powerful novel with strong and unique characters that each provide an interesting perspective in the story. This novel captures Atlantic Canada not only in its descriptions of the landscape, but also in the personalities of the characters.

I recommend this book.
