One day, the postman delivers an eleven year-old letter. The letter is addressed to her uncle from a woman named Carolyn Jollimore. She says she has evidence about a murder and begs for help from Darby. But Bill Darby is dead. And when Anne looks up the letter’s author, she finds that Jollimore too is now dead. Troubled with the evidence at hand, Anne must decide if she should investigate this eleven-year old murder.

One of my Favourite Reads!

A police constable kills his girlfriend, Simone, in a jealous rage, and once he realizes what he's done, he quickly manages to cover it up, leaving small traces of evidence and scandals in the wake. Many years pass, and detective Anne Brown receives a letter in the mail that was sent many moons ago from a woman who holds key evidence about the murder. But she has since passed, and the letter leads Anne on a goose chase, trying to bring light to the death of Simone, and possibly others.

I loved this book. It started slow, but it really catches your interest as it progresses. Personally, I find the slow start was essential to understanding the characters and getting a good grip on the storyline before the book gets action-packed. I also loved the characters. You almost feel like you know the characters personally, as you get to see their lives involving the case, and outside of the case as well, getting into their relationships and quarrels within their friendships. The fact that this book took place on Prince Edward Island (where I am from!) makes this book feel a lot like home, and has a very familiar feeling for me.

I would recommend this book for anyone who likes mystery, crime, and stories about the corruption of the people who are in authority.

I recommend this book.

The Dead Letter

Here's my very first review!!🥳 The Dead Letter by Finley Martin, a great realistic fiction and murder mystery. Incredible story and journey, from the very first page you could tell it was going to be a good one, it had twists, turns and shocking moments on almost every page. It's about a widow named Anne Brown who finds an old letter from 11 years ago that was addressed to her deceased uncle Billy Darby about a murder from all those years ago. She goes on an incredible journey to figure out who the real killer was. The Dead Letter will never cease to amaze you, It keeps you hooked until the very end and will leave you wanting more. The entire story gives you waves of emotions but will mainly make you feel empowered! If you haven't read it yet, why not give it a whirl! Trust me it's worth the try, especially if you like mysteries. I'd rate it a 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I recommend this book.

The Dead Letter

I’m so excited to talk about this book as it is definitely one of the best books I’ve ever read!! “The Dead Letter” by Finley Martin was such an exciting read that left me wanting more! I couldn’t put it down!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

The book follows P.I Anne Brown who is investigating a murder from 11 years ago. The plot is fascinating with all the connections to the law intertwining with the opening of the closed case. No one wants her snooping around and eventually Anne and her daughter face danger and Anne almost abandons the case.

This book was very well written. The characters were so relatable and real. For example, how Anne bounces back after whatever MacFarlene throws at her shows how strong her character is. I really love that the protagonist was a strong independent female; it made me love the book even more. The family dynamic was also well portrayed! The little romance also added a good balance and a little break between all the fast paced mystery. I loved the way the setting of the book was described; it made me feel like I was visiting PEI.

The Dead Letter was an enticing read that had so many twists and turns I couldn’t put it down. This book was anything but predictive and really had me anticipating every last word. This book was very fast paced and really easy to get into. The chapters were pretty small which I liked because I could easily get lost in the books and didn’t have to read a lot to get to a “checkpoint.” All in all this was a fantastic read that I highly recommend to anyone especially if you love mysteries/thrillers.

I recommend this book.
